Stress at work is an increasingly common feature of modern life. Individuals and their organizations face a growing problem of managing stress at work but are hampered by a lack of understanding of the nature of occupational stress. It is estimated that 360 million working days are lost through sickness each year at a cost of 68 billion, the UK Health and Safety Executive has estimated that at least half of these lost days are related to stress.
The Work style/culture perspective aims to address the main triggers for stress and these will be different for each individual. It is important to remember the difference between stress and pressure. Pressure can be a positive motivator and many respond well to pressure with higher levels of creativity and increased energy. Stress comes from our inner emotional and thinking constructs, and from our response to external influences.
To help in this area we have created the Feeling Alive Pressure Management Indicator, a broad range of variables thought to be relevant to the stress process are then measured. There are four main areas to consider, physical environment, management style and leadership you work with, organisational structure and cultural behaviour. During the programme the profile is explored on a one to one with a coach to see where changes can be made that will reduce stress levels. |
